3D Animation
& Visual Effects

3D Industry Review will explore the world of 2D and 3D animation by screening different genres, styles, formats, and clients of animation. The course will review the different positions and multiple paths that the animation industry travels and look at the good, the bad, and the ugly in demo reels, compare the different graphics styles in the game industry, conquer the complex visual effect shots in film and commercials, and view animated shorts. Students will explore the 3D visualization outside of the game and film world and look into the increasingly growing world of motion graphics.

Sound
Engineering

Sound engineering involves the artistic and technical control of sound in the field of music. This course will develop a theoretical and practical understanding of the fundamentals of sound engineering including recording, mixing, production and mastering. This will be achieved by theoretically and practically exploring the area of sound engineering through lectures, tutorials, and workshops. In particular, students will actively engage in learning, be developing and analyzing the practice of sound engineering through topics such as: session management and planning, studio use, signal flow, microphone and recording techniques, mixing, production and mastering; complete readings and listening that reinforce concepts, provide new insights and techniques; and perform practical exercises that promote investigative learning and research. The course has the following learning objectives: to extend artistic and technical outcomes in the sonic arts including sound recording, mixing and production; provide a comprehensive understanding of sound engineering theory and its practice; enhance problem solving skills; and provide a reflexive active skill set that can adapt to the rapidly changing landscape of sound engineering, its practice and processes.

Music
Production

This Specialization will give you the knowledge and tools you need to record and produce professional sounding music. You will begin by developing your identity, vision, and intention as an artist and producer. Next, you will learn the technical aspects of music production, including how sound is translated into audio signals, recording techniques, and effects such as reverb, delay, and compression. You will also learn how to use the industry standard Digital Audio Workstation, Pro Tools, to create professional recordings. Finally, you will apply the knowledge and tools you gained in a culminating 4-week Capstone where you will complete a project beginning at the pre-production stage through the recording, mixing, and mastering stages.

PHOTO
PHOTOGRAPHY

Photography 101 is a beginning course in which students will be introduced to basic camera features and photo composition. The course covers consumer-level digital camera and 35mm film camera features such as the aperture, shutter, and light meter, methods to obtain proper exposures and creative control, and composition to improve image quality. Students will learn to process and print traditional black and white photos as well as digital methods of image reproduction. Emphasis is placed on print quality and composition throughout the course.

Film &
Television

This course offers Critical analysis of contemporary entertainment industries and practical approach to understanding and implementing producer's role in the development of feature film and television scripts. Through scholarly and trade journal readings, in-class discussions, script analysis, and select guest speakers, exposure to various entities that comprise feature film and television development process. This course helps students learn how to direct actors. Other creative and technical skills used to create motion pictures are also emphasized, and students might be asked to complete a project by semester's end.
